GitHub's new tool uses AI to craft code. Some developers are furious
Copilot launched last week in an invite-only Technical Preview, promising to save time by responding to users' code with its own smart suggestions. Those suggestions are based on billions of lines of public code that users have publicly contributed to GitHub, using an AI system called Codex from the research company OpenAI. GitHub describes Copilot as the AI equivalent of pair programming, in which two developers work together at a single computer. The idea is that one developer can bring new ideas or spot problems that the other developer might've missed, even if it requires more person-hours to do so.
A new tool uses AI to spot text written by AI
AI algorithms can generate text convincing enough to fool the average human--potentially providing a way to mass-produce fake news, bogus reviews, and phony social accounts. Thankfully, AI can now be used to identify fake text, too. The news: Researchers from Harvard University and the MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab have developed a new tool for spotting text that has been generated using AI. Called the Giant Language Model Test Room (GLTR), it exploits the fact that AI text generators rely on statistical patterns in text, as opposed to the actual meaning of words and sentences. In other words, the tool can tell if the words you're reading seem too predictable to have been written by a human hand.

New tool uses AI to roll back problematic continuous delivery builds automatically
As companies shift to CI/CD (continuous integration/continuous delivery), they face a problem around monitoring and fixing problems in builds that have been deployed. How do you deal with an issue after moving onto the next delivery milestone? Harness, the startup launched last year by AppDynamics founder Jyoti Bansal, wants to fix that with a new tool called 24 7 Service Guard. The new tool is designed to help companies working with a continuous delivery process by monitoring all of the builds, regardless of when they were launched. What's more, the company claims that using AI and machine learning, it can dial back a problematic build to one that worked in an automated fashion, freeing developers and operations to keep working without worry.
New Tool Uses AI to Improve Wedding Planning
For most people, the sound of wedding bells evokes happiness. Whether you're remembering the time you tied the knot with your significant other or finally jumping the broom, weddings are always a joyful celebration. But if you've already gone through the process, or are going through it now, you know just how untrue that emotion is when you're in the planning process. While I haven't had the pleasure of marrying my fiancé yet, I have had the pleasure of being a Maid of Honor quite a few times and am currently in the planning phases with my sister for her wedding – so I speak from experience when I say it's definitely not all sunshine and rainbows. Working with a budget, getting guest lists, picking venues and vendors is no easy task.
